My 2010 Thesis film. Originally this was a much bigger concept about a making “Scarecrows” into a biological necessity and what that would would look like. What these creatures “niche” would be in the environment, their life cycle and so forth. Obviously that would have been much too much work for a single person. The second draft was a about the a young scarecrow that aspired to be like his older counterpart though he lacked most of the more fearsome attributes. I think that draft, that can be seen in the old storyboard below, had a lot more fun and was easier to follow. This draft and what ended up being the final version of the film came from trying to fix a few problems I had with previous version but in my inexperience, ended up “throwing away the baby with the bathwater”. Though the smaller problems were technically fixed much of the fun and characterizations were lost. But at the end of it all this was a great experience to learn from and now, years later. It’s nice to be able to recognize your past failings because that is the only way we know we have grown from the experience.
